The Path to Truth

THE PATH TO TRUTH - seems to be an interesting subject of late...

ASSUMPTIONS - unprovable by direct scientific evidence* - statements of Faith.
1. There is only one TRUTH and it is absolutely true.
2. All things that we consider to be true are part of this great TRUTH.
3. God is the creator of the universe and thus the creator, author, and final judge of what is TRUTH.

-- end assumptions --- begin statements of fact ---

CHRISTIANITY - here's what Christians believe:

The Christian bible states all of us are not perfect (sin) and we need forgiveness. Romans 3
Unforgiven sinners are forever seperated from God when they die (hell). Romans 6:23
Forgiven followers of Jesus Christ get to spend eternity with God (heaven).
The God described in the Bible has decided that the only way to obtain forgiveness is to pledge alliegance to Jesus Christ who died as a punishment for your sins.. John 3:16-18
God requires justice, justice requires punishment, punishment=death, Jesus did the dying so that you don't have to.

Pretty harsh - but he's God so he gets to make the rules. It's your job to review the evidence and decide if you want to accept or reject his system.

---- Logical Analysis of the Christian Belief System ----

Many people believe that there are many ways or paths that you can take toward God. Unfortunately, if this is the case then it makes Christianity a really nasty idea - why would you kill your son if there was a less drastic way to let humans get close to you.

Thus - it is not logical to believe that Christ is but one of the many ways to Heaven, paradise, or Nirvana. The person named Jesus Christ as described by the eyewittnesses Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John is either a liar, a lunatic, or he is truly Lord of the universe.

He can't be just a wise teacher... that's not logical nor consistent with what he said about himself.

--- * footnote ---
The evidence for Christ and the Christian bible is actually pretty good as far as evidence goes. We have 4 eye witness accounts, and multiple letters that were written by people who were either there, or were at most one person removed. This is better data than we have for most historical books such as the Iliad.

See - The Case for Christ - by Lee Strobel for more details.Lee Strobel was an atheist, winner of the Pullitzer prize for journalism, who decided to investigate the claims of Christianity from the standpoint of an investigative journalist. It's a very complete investigation - a bit dry - but worth the read if you like to prove things to yourself.

Comments? Poke holes in my logic - what am I missing?
